Karate America FAQs
Questions and Answers
| How early do you start children? | ^TOP | |
| All of our programs are age specific. Little Ninjas-Focus and Listening Course (Ages 3-5); Young Achievers (Ages 5-8); Youth (8-14); Teens/Adults (14 and up). |
| I am afraid my child will use their karate on brothers, sisters, or at school? | ^TOP | |
This is a very important concern. At Karate America, we stress to each and every student that they are never to misuse their martial arts. As a matter of fact, every student in our academy must keep this promise or they are asked to leave. At Karate America, it is our goal to instill excellent character qualities, including; patience, control, and self-discipline. |
| What is the difference between traditional and non-traditional schools? And which are you? | ^TOP | |
Karate America is a non-traditional school. While we still uphold the traditions of honor, integrity, honesty, and many of the physical techniques, we do not require that our students bow to a foreign flag, or count in a foreign language. We are an American martial arts academy. |
| Do you teach religious concepts at your academy? | ^TOP | |
We are a leadership and life skills academy. Our focus is on confidence, self discipline, and becoming leaders. Karate America does not paint dragons on their windows, bow to idols or flags, etc. |
| How often do I have to attend? | ^TOP | |
Most of our Karate America students will attend 2 days per week, for 30 minute classes. We also have a bonus class on Saturday. |
| Are you Tae Kwon Do, or Karate? | ^TOP | |
Karate America's roots are in Tae Kwon Do. Over the years we have decided to add other aspects of the martial arts into our classes to better serve the needs of our students. Imagine if children could only learn math in school. Would they be prepared for life? At Karate America, we have taken the best aspects from Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Jiu Jitsu (wrestling), boxing, kick boxing, Judo, and Aikido, and formed them into a curriculum that is fun and exciting for our students. This is one of the main advantages of the Karate America system. |
| How many kids are in a class? | ^TOP | |
Our class sizes vary by day. Our schedule is 'roster based' which allows us to control our class sizes. Our student to instructor ratio is 8:1. |
| Do we have to go to tournaments? | ^TOP | |
No. Tournaments are not a required part of our curriculum. Considering that many of our chief instructors were highly ranked competitors (by their choice), we do have the ability to provide this aspect of the martial arts to our students. |

| Will my child break boards? | ^TOP | |
There will be times when students will be allowed to break boards, but it is not a main focus at our academy. When it happens, it is under very strict supervision, and limited by age. At Karate America, we believe in keeping our students safe. Having a young student hit a board with hands and elbows can lead to serious injury, possibly even damage to growth plates. |
